Happy Valley Music Traditions

Christine Horton

Historic Happy Valley retains its connection to a time when musical instruments were made by hand, and when music was played at home as well as at social gatherings. Pianist Christine Horton played her first job at the local VFW when she was only 13. At age 10, Clyde Ferguson, Sr. learned to play guitar by ear from listening to the radio. Bobby McMillon collected a whole journal of traditional songs from relatives and friends by the time he was 16. Reggie Harris grew up in a musical family and today plays with The Harris Brothers.

Hear these longtime Happy Valley residents describe and play the traditional music they grew up with on this Historic Happy Valley site podcast.
