Community Theater

Dance

Community theater provides citizens of all ages and from all walks of life the opportunity to learn aspects of the theatrical arts, from acting to set building to publicity. As non-professional or "avocational" participants, they are unpaid but passionate about theater and their companies have long histories and respected places in the lives of their communities. Theatre Charlotte is North Carolina's oldest continually active community theater, with a production history dating from 1927. Winston-Salem is home to Twin City Stage, originally called The Little Theatre, one of the state's oldest community theaters which mounted its first performance in 1935.  With the largest subscription base (more than 3,000) of any community theater in the Triangle area, the Raleigh Little Theatre produces 11 shows each season.
